“We are not permitted to choose the frame of our destiny. But what we put into it is ours.”
— Dag Hammarskjöld —
Swedish statesman and United Nations secretary-general
Have you ever had one of those moments where life just clicks? Maybe you met someone who changed your path completely, landed an opportunity at the perfect time, or found yourself in a situation that felt strangely inevitable. It’s easy to look at these moments and think: Was this fate? Was this always meant to happen?
Astrologers who study historical events have noticed that the people involved in major moments often have strikingly interconnected astrological charts. It’s as if they were meant to be part of that event, drawn together by some invisible thread. But does this mean everything in life is predetermined? Are we just following a script, or do we actually have a say in where we end up?
Let’s break it down.
The Energy You’re Born With
We all arrive in this world at a unique moment in cosmic time, carrying a specific energy pattern. Some believe this gives us a kind of natural direction—a path that, if followed, makes life feel easier, more fluid, and right.
But does this mean we’re stuck on a fixed path? No, absolutely not.
Imagine you’re given an instrument at birth. Some get a violin, others a drum, maybe a grand piano. That’s fate. But whether you choose to play it, how you learn, and what kind of music you create? That’s entirely up to you.
A Real-Life Example: Steve Jobs and the Call to Innovation
Take Steve Jobs, for example. Born with a chart full of creative, unconventional energy, he was naturally drawn to innovation. It’s easy to look at his life and say: Of course, he was meant to change the world. But that wasn’t set in stone.
Jobs could have ignored his creative impulses. He could have stayed in a stable job, followed a safer route, or given up when Apple fired him in 1985. But he didn’t. He used his free will to align with his natural talents, and forge his own way. His energy may have given him a certain pull toward invention, but it was his choices that made him the icon we remember.
Following the Flow vs. Fighting the Current
If there is a path that aligns with our energy, does that mean we have to follow it? No. Life isn’t a straight road—it’s more like a river. You can fight against the current, struggle upstream, and exhaust yourself trying to go in a direction that doesn’t quite fit. Or you can go with the flow, navigating twists and turns, but ultimately letting the energy carry you toward what feels right.
The key is recognising when you’re forcing something that isn’t meant for you, versus when you’re stepping into something that feels natural.
So, Do We Have Free Will?
Yes, completely. Free will isn’t an illusion—it’s what makes life exciting. The universe may set the stage, but we get to write the script.
Some choices might feel easier than others because they align with who we naturally are. But even when the stars seem to point in a certain direction, we’re the ones who decide how to walk the path.
What’s Next?
This is just the start of a three-part exploration. Next, we’ll dive into Universal Will—the idea that beyond our personal choices, there may be a greater force at play, shaping the world in ways we don’t always see. Then, we’ll explore how our Environmentinteracts with both fate and free will, influencing the lives we create.
For now, think about this:
Are there moments in your life that felt meant to be?
Are you fighting against the current or flowing with it?
If fate exists, how much control do you really have?
Perhaps life isn’t about choosing between fate and free will, but about learning how to dance between them.

I first became a student of astrology after encountering the many misconceptions surrounding it. What began as curiosity turned into a deeper study, revealing a nuanced system far removed from the simplistic stereotypes often portrayed.
